“Day of Action” event focuses on family finances

United Way of Marion County will hold the third annual "Day of Action" on Saturday, June 19, 2010. This year's event will focus on helping Marion County families improve their financial situation through budgeting and saving money.

"Family Financial Fitness" workshops will be featured from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ewers Center at the College of Central Florida located on State Road 200 in Ocala. The event is FREE and will include lunch. Sessions for adults include topics such as creating a household budget, tips on saving money, learning about banking options and looking at your credit report. Sessions for children will also be provided by United Way and GreenPath. All sessions are provided by trained facilitators. Deadline for families to register is Wednesday, June 16. United Way Day of Action is an opportunity for United Way communities to show what it means to LIVE UNITED. June 21st-the longest day of the year, with more daylight hours than any other-presents an annual opportunity for the United Way system to declare its intention to improve lives in measurable and lasting ways by mobilizing thousands of people around a common goal: advancing the common good.

"The volunteers and staff recognize the many challenges families and individuals are faced right now in our challenging economic times," said United Way of Marion County's President Maureen Quinlan. "Our goal is forthe workshops to make a difference and help ease some financial stress for the future."
