United Way's Women's Leadership Council
WoW stands for Women Of Worth. And worth is not defined exclusively as monetary worth.
This group of women came together in 2004 to launch a powerful force for good in our community, to bring women together as a unique driving force and inspire them to ignite their passion for leading change in the community. The Council promotes community involvement and philanthropic giving among women in our community with the purpose of furthering United Way's community-based agenda.
Women of Worth now includes more than 80 members. A member is a woman who is already a contributor to United Way but who also gives at least $125 annually to WoW.
WoW members have learned about community issues over the past year and are ready to decide, within the general mission of United Way of Marion County, how to focus their dollars on a special area of interest. Worth brings into play the caring, feminine side of women while at the same time their strength, both in terms of resolve and financial resources. Women traditionally care for their children and for the elderly of their families and the community. Members demonstarate a strong commitment to caring and share the common belief that positive social change happens when new standards of achievement are set and communities work together for a common goal.
