Community Involvment
The United Way partners with a variety of community organizations.
Human Services Council
Created by the United Way of Marion County in 2000, the council is open to all human service providers, both public and private. The Council provides a valuable forum for issues of mutual concern. Marion County Children's Alliance
United Way's President is a member of the board and currently serves as its Treasurer. United Way's Vice President of Community Initiatives is a member of the Alliance's Steering Committee.
Community with a Heart
United Way is a permanent member of the board of directors of CWAH, a holiday fund founded by the Star-Banner to help the needy that fall through the cracks.
Community Council Against Substance Abuse
United Way's Director of Community Solutions serves as a member of the Advisory Board which helps CCASA's directors with technical assistance and advice.
Energy Assistance Program
United Way is the trustee for energy assistance programs for Progress Energy, Ocala Electric Utility and Sumter Electric. As trustee, United Way is responsible for screening and selecting appropriate agencies to help the needy pay utility bills.
Early Learning Coalition
Success By 6 currently partners with this organization to help reach out to our young children in child-care centers throughout the community.
Emergency Food & Shelter Program
United Way is a permanent member of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board which is responsible for setting standards for distribution of approximately $100,000 each year in federal funding to local nonprofit agencies and churches that provide emergency services.
Homeless Management Information Systems
HMIS is a collaboration between United Way of Marion County and the Marion County Homeless Council. The program is geared to supply necessary local information to obtain federal homeless funding. The United Way president sits on the Homeless Council board of directors.
Marion Disaster Recovery Network
United Way's VP of Community Initiatives is the coordinator for this community-based support network to facilitate the long-term recovery needs of Marion County residents affected by disasters.
