Mission 2026

Women United for ReadingPals is a movement of local women who invest in transforming our community’s future by directing their time, talent, and treasure to United Way’s ReadingPals program. With this strategic focus on early literacy, Women United is leading the charge to ensure children build the foundational skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

ReadingPals focuses on developing early literacy skills, fostering meaningful mentor relationships, and building confidence and resilience in young learners—while instilling a lifelong love of reading. Through a partnership with Marion County Public Schools, ReadingPals serves kindergarten and VPK classrooms across Marion County, where dedicated volunteer mentors commit at least one hour each week during the school year.

Together, Women United champions early literacy as a critical pathway to long-term success, helping children develop the skills, confidence, and support they need to thrive—one reader, one relationship, and one classroom at a time.

Women United Annual Luncheon Inspires Community to Lead the Charge and Empower Families

United Way of Marion County’s Women United Annual Luncheon united community leaders, businesses, and advocates for an inspiring afternoon dedicated to empowering women and strengthening families across Marion County.

Proceeds from the luncheon benefit United Way’s Strong Families Program, which helps local families overcome barriers to stability and break the cycle of generational poverty.

This year’s event surpassed our fundraising goal of $55,000 thanks to the incredible generosity of donors and community partners who continue to invest in building a stronger, more equitable future for local families.

“Every contribution made today directly supports families who are working hard to create lasting change in their lives,” said President Robert "Bob" Haight. “The compassion and commitment of this community truly fuels our mission.”

Last year’s campaign raised more than $50,000 to support victims of domestic violence through CASA Marion, and this year, Women United continues that legacy of impact—proving once again the power of women leading the charge for change.

Inspiring Keynote: The Happiness Equation

Attendees were uplifted by keynote speaker Dr. Sophia Godkin, affectionately known as “The Happiness Doctor.” Author of The 5-Minute Gratitude Journal, Dr. Godkin presented “The Happiness Equation: 3 Elements That Can Shift the Way We Feel and Live,” reminding guests that happiness is more than a feeling—it’s a daily practice that transforms how we love, lead, and connect.
