United Way of Marion County is committed to investments in economic empowerment, so that low-to-middle income families have the resources and support to meet needs, weather emergencies and make investments toward a brighter future. For families walking a financial tightrope, United Way is here to help.

Our Vision

Families and individuals have the basic necessities to meet their needs while transitioning to being financially stable and self-supportive.

Target Issues

  • Meeting basic needs such as housing, food, and utilities.
  • Changing knowledge, habits, and behaviors which leads to increased long-term financial stability.

Internal Initiatives

United Way of Marion County offers FREE income tax preparation through various VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) locations throughout Marion County.

 

The Strong Families Initiative is a financial stability effort that helps families get out of poverty and enhance their housing opportunities through skill-building, case management, and mentoring.

Ensures that a warm meal is available to men, women, and children lacking resources for safe and healthy living.

Creative Services

Sustainable Housing/Economic Self-Sufficiency
Ensures food, safe housing, and future stable housing are available to women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

First Step Food Bank

Feeding the Needy
Distributes food products through approved agencies to the needy, ill, and children of Marion County.

Interfaith Emergency Services, Inc.

Homeless Engagement Program
Connects, refers, and coordinates services for clients needing housing and other resources.

Kut Different

Empowerment Program
This school-based enrichment program aims to motivate African American males in grades 4-8. Additionally, youth are taught skills for academic success and positive social behavior.

Marion County Literacy Council

Building Adult Literacy Skills
Provides self-sufficiency and independence through quality instructional services for adults seeking education growth.

Shepherd's Lighthouse: 

Direct Services
Provides a safe environment for the rescue, empowerment, and renewal of women and children in their time of need.

The Salvation Army

Feeding Program
Serves nutritious meals every day of the year to homeless and low-income individuals in Marion County.

Shelter Program
Provides emergency shelter beds for single men, women, and families, and assists clients with developing a self-sufficiency plan.
